Reuven Israel’s sculpture practice engages directly with form and color, drawing on countless cultural references ranging from religious monuments to science fiction. The artist’s sources of inspiration turn into freestanding sculptures that imply familiar forms. Although they appear to be industrially produced, the sculptures are actually the result of a painstaking process that includes many stages from hand-cutting MDF boards to coating them with industrial paints and varnishes.
Reuven Israel, who received his BA and MA degrees from the prestigious Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, recently had solo exhibitions at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Civico Floriano Bodini Museum in Germonio, Italy. His work has been presented at major international art fairs such as UNTITLED Miami, Expo Chicago, NADA NY, Art Brussels and Artissima. Reuven Israel is the recipient of many major art awards and his work is in various public and private collections around the world. She is represented by Braverman Gallery in Tel Aviv and Shulamit Nazarian in Los Angeles.
Reuven Israel (b.1978, Jerusalem) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
