Anselm Reyle

In his series called “Stripe Paintings”, Anselm Reyle expresses his criticism of the “kitsch” with bright and decorative materials, such as glossy foil paper, that represent the commercial world. This critique is especially interested in the distinction between the categories of ‘high art’ and ‘low culture’ and the question of where these excesses converge. Reyle brings together valuable and classical materials and the “garbage” left behind by daily life in his works, and creates works that testify to our time and encourage reflection on today’s consumer culture.

Born in 1970 in Germany, Reyle lives and works in Berlin.
