Kevin Brisco Jr. was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He earned his BA in Painting from Wesleyan in Middletown, Connecticut, and in 2020 has just completed his MFA in Painting from Yale School of Art. He lives and works in New Haven, CT.

His work represents a strong interest in figure-ground relationships, particularly the background of the South, the American U.S., and how the history and narrative of figures are written into the landscape they occupy. Light and shadow are also important themes, as well as the concept of light being historically seen as a source of safety juxtaposed with the idea that difficult things can still happen in broad daylight. His works often question how joy and trauma are all wrapped into one.
